The Department of Mathematics and Science Education at University of Georgia invites applications for the position of Clinical Assistant Professor with expertise in Mathematics Education to begin in August 2018. The position is an academic year appointment with the possibility of summer employment and is contingent on available funding. Although this position is not tenure track, it is renewable and has a well-structured promotion system. Clinical positions play a critical role in the mission of the department, college, and university. In recognition of the importance of clinical faculty, starting salaries are on par with tenure-track faculty salaries and are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities will include all of the following:
• Teach undergraduate and graduate level mathematics education courses for prospective elementary, middle grades, and secondary mathematics teachers.
• Provide instructional leadership and mentoring to graduate teaching assistants who teach the same courses.
• Advise graduate students.
• Coordinate initial certification programs in mathematics education.
• Participate in on-going program development within the Department of Mathematics and Science Education and the College of Education.
• Engage in departmental, college, university, and professional service.

The Department of Mathematics and Science Education consists of 8 full-time mathematics educators and 9 full-time science educators. The Mathematics Education Program offers BSEd, MEd, MA, MAT, EdS, and PhD degrees; attracts and supports national and international doctoral students; and has strong collaborative relationships with colleagues in mathematics, statistics, quantitative and qualitative methods, and area school districts. The College of Education consists of 9 departments and approximately 220 faculty members. It is ranked 34th nationally and is home to numerous programs ranked in the top 10 nationally.

Minimum Qualifications

• A doctorate in mathematics education or related field earned by the start date.
• A minimum of five years of in-field mathematics teaching experience as a fully certified teacher in public school settings.
• A record of successful teaching of college/university mathematics education courses or demonstrable potential for such instruction.
• A record of collaborative professional interactions or service supporting students, teachers, the institution, or the discipline, or demonstrable potential for such engagement.
• A bachelor’s degree in mathematics or mathematics education or equivalent coursework.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with teachers or students in two or more grade bands, with one or more years in each.
