The University of Georgia (UGA) seeks a highly-organized, detailed-oriented, and collaborative leader as Assistant Director of Assessment within the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL). The CTL is a unit of the Office of the Vice President for Instruction (OVPI) whose central mission is to provide campus-wide leadership, collaboration, and support on matters related to instruction.

Reporting to the Director of the CTL, the Assistant Director of Assessment will engage in two central domains of activity: 1) Coordinate and provide training, support, and consulting for those engaging in student learning outcomes (SLO) assessment at UGA and 2) Perform SLO assessment (including data collection, analysis, and reporting) for institution-level projects that require such assessment (these projects currently include General Education and UGA’s SACSCOC Quality Enhancement Plan). In addition, this person will work collaboratively with the Office of Accreditation and Institutional Effectiveness and the Office of the Vice President for Instruction; support the administration of assessment tools; and prepare and present reports to staff, faculty, and administration.

The ideal candidate will have experience with student learning outcomes assessment; a background in educational research and/or programmatic assessment experience; a successful record of collaboration in higher education; excellent oral and written communication skills; and possess a high attention to detail. This is a non-tenure track, faculty rank position.

Key responsibilities for this position include the following:

• Design, develop, and participate in the CTL’s activities designed to train and support faculty and professional staff engaged in performing SLO assessment at the program level;
• Develop and deliver assessment-related programming and events in support of faculty success and efficacy in the classroom;
• Lead SLO assessment planning and implementation activities for university-level academic programs (i.e. General Education and UGA’s SACSCOC Quality Enhancement Plan);
• Consult with faculty as needed in support of SLO assessment planning and implementation activities;
• Engage in data interpretation/analysis for university-level academic programs;
• Contribute to the continuous self-assessment and evaluation of CTL programming; and
• Contribute to the sustaining mission of the CTL as a member of the leadership team.

Minimum Qualifications

The required qualifications for the successful candidate for this Assistant Director of Assessment position are

• an earned Ph.D. in Educational Assessment and Evaluation, Higher Education Administration, Institutional Effectiveness, Educational Psychology, or a closely related field by the end of the spring 2018 semester

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications for the ideal candidate for this position include the following:

• one year of experience working in higher education in the general areas of assessment and evaluation;
• a broad knowledge of SLO assessment;
• one-year experience training faculty and staff to perform SLO assessment;
• the ability to use software often employed for SLO assessment (such as Qualtrics, NVIVO, and/or SPSS);
• demonstrated commitment to accuracy, details, and deadlines; and
• evidence of excellent written, oral, and/or visual communication skills.
• broad understanding of quantitative and qualitative methods used to assess student learning outcomes;
• general understanding of SACSCOC or other related accreditation bodies; and
• one-year experience working in a large, public R-1 university setting.
