The Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and the Institute for African American Studies are initiating an internal search to fill the position, Director of the Institute for African American Studies (IAAS). Interested applicants must hold a faculty position at the rank of tenured Associate or Full Professor at the University of Georgia. The Director is the chief administrative officer for the Institute and major responsibilities include:

• Recruitment, supervision, development and evaluation of core faculty and staff
• Supporting professional development of IAAS faculty, staff, and students
• Building collaborations with other university entities to expand course offerings and increase enrollment
• Fundraising and grant writing on behalf of the Institute
• Creating and developing sponsored and co-sponsored public programs
• Budget management

The Institute for African American Studies (IAAS) draws upon a variety of traditions in Africana Studies and engages fields across the humanities, social sciences, and education. The mission of the Institute is to promote the study of people of African descent and their experiences throughout the Diaspora; promote the field of African American Studies as a major academic discipline; and serve as a repository for cultural and historical research. The IAAS offers an undergraduate major and a minor, and undergraduate and graduate certificates in African American Studies.

• Tenured faculty member at the University of Georgia
• Terminal Degree (Ph.D., MFA, etc)
• Program of scholarship in African American Studies
• Experience in academic leadership and/or service
